Memorial funeral services for H.G. Bateman will be held at 12:00 Noon, Monday, March 1, 2010 at Waldo Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor George Cline of Grace Bible Church officiating. Mr. Bateman passed away Friday, February 26, 2010 at his home at the age of 88. A family burial will be held with Rodger Bateman, Bob Rogers, Will Rogers, Cody Bateman, Charlie Price, Jay Peck and Nick Runyon serving as pallbearers.
H. G. was born on July 30, 1921 in Commerce, TX to the late Arthur Hamilton and Myrtle V. (Sweat) Bateman. He served in the US Army 328th Engineer Construction Battalion from May 1940 to October 1945. He earned five bronze stars and seven overseas service bars. Serving during WW II, he also participated in the Battle of the Bulge. H.G. married Jo Willa Owen on August 10, 1946 in Crandall, TX.
He owned Bateman Construction for over forty years until his retirement in 1987. . He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He loved his family especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
H. G. is survived by his wife Jo of Sherman, son Rodger Bateman and wife Brenda of Sherman, daughter Nancy Rogers and husband Bob of Ft. Worth, grandchildren Amber Price and husband Charlie, Heather Peck and husband Jay all of Edmond, OK, Will Rogers and wife Katie of San Antonio, TX, Cody Bateman of Dallas, TX and Whitney Runyon and husband Nick of Austin, TX, twin great-grandchildren Levi and Madeline Peck of Edmond, OK and sister Melba Homer of Sherman, TX. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, friends and a special niece Pat Taylor of Houston, TX.
Following the memorial service the family will receive friends in the Waldo Family Center.
