Leota Adams departed this life on Friday, July 23, 2010. A life-long resident of the area she passed peacefully in the early morning hours.
She was born Leota Butts on May 16, 1920. Prior to moving to Sherman, her early years were spent on a farm in the Preston Bend of the Red River. In 1937 she married Carl R. Adams. She is pre-deceased by her husband, Carl, and her beloved sister and business partner, Juanita Green. Lee and Juanita operated Cameo Coiffures for over 60 years in three locations in downtown Sherman. During her career Leota was an active hair designer and successful competitor in state and national hair competitions. Leota was active in women's civic organizations. These included Altrusa, Lionesses, Business and Professional Women and the Stratford Club. Lee was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Sherman and active in both church and Sunday school. Her passions were Texas A&M football and The Fighting Texas Aggie Band. Among Lee's treasures, was a recent picture taken with Reveille.
Leota is survived by her son David Adams and his wife Nita of Fredericksburg, Virginia; two grandsons, Conrad Adams and wife Margo of Houston, Texas and Matthew Adams of Richmond, Virginia and two great grandchildren.
The family requests that you join them for a celebration of Leota's life at Waldo Funeral Home from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Monday, July 25 and services in the sanctuary of The First Baptist Church at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 26. Burial at West Hill Cemetery will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Altrusa scholarship fund at Grayson College sent in Lee's memory to Ms. Tina Dodson, Director of Scholarships at Grayson College.
