Sonya Ann Caldwell was born May 19, 1934 in Paris, Texas to Vivian Miller Caldwell and Guy Stanley Caldwell, Jr. and passed away November 27, 2019 at the age of 85.

She attended Paris Schools and graduated from Bob Jones Academy in Greenville, South Carolina in 1952.  She attended Bob Jones University and Weatherford Junior College.

Sonya married George Buchanan on February 27, 1953.  They were married 66 years.  They had two sons - Jonathan Ivan and Timothy Mark.

Sonya loved her family and was the host of many family dinners at holidays and special occasions. She loved to entertain in her home and always had a wonderful meal. Her grandchildren loved to come to grandma's house and the candy bowl was always full.

She was on the founding board of Christian Women's Club in Sherman, Texas and served as chairman and many other offices. She was also an active member of Sherman's Business and Professional Women's Club.

Sonya worked with George in business in Sherman for 32 years including her work as a volunteer coordinator for the Sherman Crisis Center.  She and George built and ran the Crisis Center Thrift Store which benefitted the Crisis Center.

For the last 20 years she had a ministry for women called Women of Courage.  All her adult life she taught and counseled women about Biblical principles and truths. She made a great impact in the lives of the women she mentored.

In 2013 Sonya and George moved to Colorado to live with their son. For the last three years they have lived in a skilled nursing facility in Colorado Springs. Sonya continued to mentor women even after she moved into a skilled nursing facility. Her passion for helping others was the hallmark of her life.

Sonya was preceded in death by her parents, brother Courtney and sister Hope as well as her husband George.  She is survived by her sons, Ivan and Tim (Pam), four grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, 20 nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
