IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ada Victoria
Thompson
March 10, 1954 – August 19, 2023
Our beloved wife and mother, Ada Victoria Camacho Thompson, 69, of Sherman, Texas, passed away August 19, 2023, while surrounded with love and hope.
Ada was born on March 10, 1954, as the first child of Aida Maria and Ramon Luis Camacho in Peñuelas, Puerto Rico. She was one of 13 children and loved being a big sister. At a young age, she left that "tiny island" for far-off places such as Venezuela, Peru, Canada, and Japan; she finally settled in the great big state of Texas in the early 70s. It is here she met and married 'the calm to her storm,' her "hubby" Charlie, on August 23, 1979. They began welcoming and raising their numerous children soon after.
Momma lived as she did most things - big, boisterous, and bold. She danced and sang her way through the years with verve and with a Spanish accented voice that was as large as she was small. She never welcomed anyone into her home without lovingly insisting they eat and then joyfully and abundantly serving them. Although she bequeathed parts of her fiery Latin temperament to the next generations, Momma, in peaceful moments, always found ways to remind us to be patient and kind. These lessons were never more evident than when she was with her beloved grandchildren whom she viewed as good and precious gifts from heaven. Even as dementia robbed her of memories and years, Momma remained faithful to her Lord and loved ones, praising Him, and consistently lighting up with remembrance and love. Her light and love will forever shine in our hearts and lives as she waits to dance with us again.
Ada is survived by her adoring husband of 44 years, Charles Thompson. She was 'Momma' incarnate to her eight children and their spouses: Nelva Smithson, Mary and Michael Majors, Christan and James Hilbrand, Charlene and Travis Lyons, Patrick and Megan Thompson, Raymond and Katie Thompson, Preston and Gina Thompson, and Samuel and Ashley Thompson. She is also survived by the fifteen treasures of her heart: Rocky Smithson, Abigail Smithson, Drake Foster, Cole Foster, Liam Lyons, Genesis Hilbrand, Hartley Hilbrand, Liam Thompson, Emmie Foster, Loralei Hilbrand, Alek Lyons, Adonijah Thompson, Sophie Thompson, Zella Thompson, and Silas Thompson; all who devotedly called her 'Mimi.'
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at Fairview Baptist Church in Sherman, Texas. Her family will hold visitation at 1:30 immediately before this service. The Thompsons implore others to make donations in support of breast cancer and dementia research, in Ada's honor.
