Alan Grant Bennett, 66, passed away Saturday, August 22nd as a result of Lou Gehrig's disease. The only child of Walter Bennett and Madeline McNair Bennett. Alan was born November 9th, 1948 in Lawton, Oklahoma. Alan was a 1967 Duncan Demon graduate and attended The University of Oklahoma majoring in music where he was also a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Alan was a member of the OU Pride marching band. Later Alan was the music director at Madill public schools and Sayre public schools in Oklahoma. He served as the camp director at Pettijohn Springs Christian camp before moving to Sherman, Texas where he was an insurance agent for Farm Bureau. Alan returned to education with a masters degree in education from Texas A&M at Commerce. He retired from the Denison School District in 2011 after 20 years of "molding the minds of young people". Alan enjoyed world travels, music, golf and the blessing of good times with his many friends. Alan is survived by the love of his life Arlene Riley and his three children; Leah Alexander and her husband Lavan of Little Elm, Texas, their daughter Emme, and Alan's soon to arrive grandson London Alan Alexander, Alan's son Bret Bennett and wife Brittany of Sherman, Texas, their three daughters Baylee, Bella and Blair, and Alan's son Grant Bennett of Pottsboro, Texas. He is also survived by Arlene's children Shane and Rebecca, grandchildren Ashlyn, Liam, Hana and Rafa and great grandson Riley.
