Anna Elsie Scott, 97 year old Sherman resident, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, April 20, 2008. Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Tom Bean, Texas on Thursday, April 24, 2008 at 2:00 pm. Pastor Jerry Colgrove of the church will officiate. Entombment will follow at the Chapel on the Hill Mausoleum at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman.
Anna was born February 17, 1911 in New York City to Samuel and Louise Forshee. Anna, along with her brother Sam and sister, Helen, was placed in an orphanage after both parents died. The three children, along with many other children, rode the Orphan Train to Texas around January 22, 1918. Anna was placed in the home of Zeph and Zora Binion in Pilot Grove. On May 28, 1930 she married Rufus Sidney Scott. She and Rufus were blessed to observe their 65th wedding anniversary before he preceded her in death on June 3, 1995, and their daughter, Patsy Ann Peveto on June 26, 2003.
Anna received her Bachelor of Science degree from East Texas State Teachers College (now Texas A&M University at Commerce), and her Masters degree from Austin College. She taught school 37 years, the last 27 spent in the Tom Bean Schools, touching the lives of many children. She was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church of Tom Bean.
Survivors are a son-in-law, Dr. Sidney Peveto; grandson Dr. Ronald Peveto and wife, Patricia, of Colorado Springs, CO; granddaughter Linda Warmann and husband Jeffrey of Parker, CO; great-grandchildren Travis Peveto and wife Heidi, Ariane and Jacqualine Peveto, and Joshua and Jennifer Warmann; twelve nieces and nephews, Jimmy Binion and wife Shirley, Sam Binion and wife Lyn, James Stevenson and wife Ann, Scott Kennedy and wife Gail, Leon Scott and wife Charlotte, Ann Darland and husband Bill, Gloria Higgs and husband Dale, Wanda Kepple, Betsy Sue Mullins and husband Joe, Paula Farrer and husband Jesse, Barbara Jean Bartlet and husband Jerry and Bobbye Dyslin and husband Dale.
Visitation will be held at Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman from 6:00-8:00 pm, Wednesday April 23, 2008.
