Obituary

Audrey Carol Palmer Thorne stepped into the arms of her Savior on November 16, 2023. Carol was a godly woman who loved the Lord and her family and set an example for her children and grandchildren that will lead them all their lives. Carol was born on May 28, 1952, in the home of her grandmother, Emma Bridges, in Walters, Oklahoma, and grew up surrounded by her loving family, her parents, Dee Olin and Fay Palmer, and her sisters, Vivian, Dee Ann and Beverly.

Carol graduated from Walters High School in 1970. She received her B.A. degree in music education from the University of Oklahoma, her master's degree in special education from the University of Louisiana, and her Certification for Principal/Superintendent from Texas A & M University. Carol was an accomplished musician with a beautiful soprano voice. She was also a talented pianist who loved to play Winter Wonderland to exempt herself from after-dinner chores to the chagrin of her sisters.

Carol taught music in Walters, OK in her early career days before moving to West Monroe, LA in 1978 to pursue a teaching career in Special Education. She thrived in her career and make huge impacts in children's lives throughout her time as a teacher. She continued her career in Education when she moved to Texas in 1986, teaching at Pottsboro ISD, Bells ISD, and S&S ISD. In her time at S&S, she became Curricular Director where she found her love of writing grants.  She started her own business later in her career securing grants for charter school across Texas at times even in other states.  At the end of her career, she spent many years working in Dallas ISD as an Assistant Principal ultimately retiring in 2019.

Carol was extremely devoted to her three daughters, Casey, Amanda, and Andrea and was extremely proud of each one of them. Their many accomplishments were her favorite subjects to discuss. Her passing has left a huge void in each of their lives. Carol loved her Savior, the Lord Jesus, with all her heart and she loved God's word. She taught numerous bible studies and was a powerful prayer warrior. Only Heaven knows what a wonderful and eternal impact all her many years of faithful praying have had on her family, her friends, and the world at large. Carol leaves to mourn her passing her beloved daughters, Casey Hasten, Amanda Davis (Shane), and Andrea Lashley, her grandchildren, Garrett Hasten, Zaley Tabor, Audrey Tabor, Keeton Yarter, Kye Lashley, Gage Davis and Hannah Davis, her sisters, Vivian Bragg, Dee Ann Palmer, Beverly Edgmon, nieces Lori Kelley and Linsay Williams, nephews Craig Edgmon and Eric Bragg, and a host of other friends and family. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her beloved grandson, Gregory Hasten. The family would like to extend special appreciation to Tammy Smith who was not only a much-loved cousin, but a wonderful caregiver.
