IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Barbara Jean
Armstrong
July 8, 1952 – April 27, 2023
Barbara Jean Armstrong was born on July 8th, 1952. Barbara was born in Seattle, Washington to Cecil & Roberta Even. She was the fifth child of eight kids. Her family moved around a lot and the family ended up in Stringtown, Oklahoma, where she graduated in 1970. She got married and had a son Dale in 1973 in Atoka, Oklahoma.
The family of three then moved to Sherman, Texas where she had her son Jack in 1976. She began a job at Burlington Industries. In 1986 she had her daughter Samantha. She found another family at Sherman Church of the Nazarene, now Heritage Nazarene Church. While finding a place to worship Barbara also found a position that she loved, working in the church nursery. She worked there for 34 years, when her love of children came into full bloom.
As the years passed, Burlington Industries closed and she went to work at TI. Then in 1996, she took on the role of a single mother, for which her sons and daughter are extremely proud. While having a lot on her plate Barbara never missed a sports game, choir concert, or any church activity. Her children were everything to her. As a few more years passed, she began working at Cinga and also found another job as a church janitor then eventually she began working at Walmart.
At work Barbara made a lot of great friends who adored her and her love of reading and overall spunk. She loved to read more than almost anything other than spending time with her grandchildren, Tori Armstrong, Zoe, Zane, and Zimry Weatherspoon, Jackson Palmer, Jeremiah, Jadelynn, and Jasper Nelson. She was adored by her grandchildren and was the ultimate grandma; she loved to give her grandchildren all her love and spoiled them rotten. But not only for her kids or grandkids but her nieces and nephews, church children, or any child she came across, they were Barbara's children and they loved her as much as she loved her own.
Barbara loved time with her family. She also loved cooking and baking. All of her children, nieces, and nephews would agree, that "Barb's tacos" were the best. She was known for making rice crispy treats, tacos, and monster cookies. She was always in charge of those or popcorn balls. She also loved the color yellow. She greatly enjoyed sitting out watching the sunset and nature with her grandson on a nice warm day.
She was a very strong-willed woman of God. The way to Barbara's heart was a diet Dr. Pepper and a candy bar or having a child around.
In 2020 Barbara took a fall at her job at Wal-Mart, which messed up her arm and gave her a bump on the head. After her fall, everything seemed to fall apart. She began losing her memory and a fall hurt her leg for which she needed surgery. She ended up in Texoma Health Nursing Home and Rehab, her goal was rehab, but her other issues caused it to become her home. She was diagnosed with Dementia, and it progressed faster than expected. She sadly left us and made her way to Heaven on April 27th, 2023. Her Lord and savior, mother, father and 6 siblings greeted her.
She is survived by her 3 children: Dale Armstrong of Sherman, TX, Jack Armstrong of Sherman, TX, and Samantha Nelson of Denison, TX; grandchildren: Zoe, Zane, Zimry Weatherspoon, Tori Armstrong, Jackson Palmer, Jeremiah, Jadelynn, and Jasper Nelson; and sister Faye Dunning of Bellevue, Nebraska and brother Cecil Even Jr. of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; and many nieces nephews, and cousins.
Celebration of Life is being held May 13th, 2023, at 2pm at Heritage Nazarene Church at 601 FM1417, Sherman, TX 75092, officiated by Dr. Pastor Kevin O'Brien.
