Obituary

Barbara Gail Meador, known and loved by all as Jill, was born on January 9, 1947 in Sherman, Texas to Genevieve Stowell Meador and Jack Manning Meador. She passed peacefully on February 28, 2026, surrounded by her family.

Jill attended Whitewright High School and later continued her education at Grayson County Junior College and Stephen F. Austin. She was a lifelong and devoted member of St. Mary's Parish, where her faith remained an important part of her life.

Jill had a deep and enduring love for birds and animals. She was an active member of the Dallas Bird Fanciers Society, the Dallas Caged Bird Society, and the Brotogeris Society.

Through the Brotogeris Society, she shared her knowledge and humor by writing "Ms. Pocket," a beloved Dear Abby–style advice column for bird enthusiasts. Her passion for her feathered companions was matched only by her love for her cats, who brought her great joy and comfort.

She is survived by her brothers, Mick Meador and Jeff Meador and his wife, Alison; her sister-in-law, Kathy Meador; numerous nieces and nephews; and her special cousins, Beth Barnes and Molly Moss.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Meador; her mother, Genevieve "Gene" Meador; her brother, John "Jack" Meador; and her sister, Jennifer Meador.

Jill will be remembered for her devotion to her faith, her gentle spirit, her quick wit, and her extraordinary love for the animals in her care. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
