Betty Ann Gilbert, beloved wife, mother, grandmother , great-grandmother, educator, and lifelong North Texan, was born on April 5, 1941, in Bonham, Texas, to her loving parents, J.B. and Ruby Lee Morgan Richardson.
Betty grew up in Bonham and graduated from Bonham HighSchool in 1959. She continued her education at North Texas StateUniversity, where she earned a degree in education. Teaching was not just her profession, but her calling, and she devoted many years to nurturing young minds with patience, kindness, and care.
On June 13, 1959, Betty married the love of her life, Owen Lee Gilbert. Their wedding was officiated by her father-in-law, the Reverend O.C. Gilbert, and the Reverend Jack Carson, pastor of First Baptist Church in Bonham, Texas. Together, Betty and Owen built a life centered on faith, family, and service.
Betty taught elementary school in several North Texas school districts, including Richardson, Pittsburg, Whitewright, and Bonham. She was deeply respected as an educator and fondly remembered by her students and colleagues.
Betty was preceded in death by her father, J.B. Richardson; her mother, Ruby Lee Morgan Richardson; her brother, Glendon"Ray" Richardson; and her son, Douglas Ray Gilbert.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Owen Lee Gilbert; her daughter, Gina Leann Allen, and husband Gary Allen; her grandchildren, Gary Ross Allen and his spouse, Peter Ro, and Cristian Leann Allen; her great-grandchildren, Austin Allen Crabb and Brayden Vincent Crabb. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and their families, including many beloved nieces and nephews.Betty's life was anchored in faith, family, and service.
Even as memory faded, she was never forgotten by God, who carried her faithfully throughout her life. She now rests in the peace and presence of her Lord, reunited with those who went before her and forever held in His loving care.
