IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Betty Lou
Hunter
March 12, 1939 – October 14, 2023
A graveside funeral service for Betty Lou Mullins Hunter, 84, of Sherman will be held at 11:00 am. Thursday, October 19, 2023, at the Collinsville cemetery with Rev. Danny Miller officiating.
Family night will be held at Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Mrs. Hunter passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at her residence in Sherman surrounded by her three children.
She was born on March 12, 1939, to Bernice and Earl Mullins. Betty graduated from Gunter High School in 1957 where she loved her classmates and playing sports.
After finishing school, Betty worked for the phone company Southwestern Bell and Fisher Controls in McKinney, Tx. from where she retired in 1999.
Betty spent many years as a stay-at-home mom and according to her family and friends, this was the job she loved the most. Her kids will tell you it was the job she was best at. In 1963 she married the love of her life, Russell Hunter. They remained married until his passing in 2008.
They were both members of the First Baptist Church of Gunter. Together they raised three children. Betty and Russell Hunter spent many hours watching their children, later in life grandchildren, play sports. Together, they never missed family members' activities.
Upon moving to Sherman in 2013, her door was always open for visitors and family to come and enjoy the loving environment she created. Betty has been described by others as a sweet lady who had a caring heart and treated everyone she met with true kindness.
Betty is survived by her three children, Rusty Hunter of Howe, TX, Linda Mazerolle of Gunter, TX, Tommy Hunter and wife Melinda of Sanger, TX. Nine grandchildren, Darby and husband Hunter Nichols of Whitewright, TX, Dakota and Garrett Hunter of Howe, TX, Hadlie Hunter of Sherman, TX, Meghan Mazerolle of Spring, TX, Mackenzie and husband Brent Buell of Tyler, TX, Mason Mazerolle of Gunter, TX, Quin Carney and wife Augusta of Collinsville, TX, Cory Carney of Whitesboro, TX. Three great grandchildren, Ellyson, Dawsyn and Rowan Nichols of Whitewright, TX, and brother Richard and wife Virginia Mullins of Denison, TX.
She was preceded in death by her husband Russell Hunter of Dorchester, TX, by her parents, her sisters Pat Swingle of Richardson, Tx, Earline Mullins of Gunter, TX.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Guardian Hospice for the loving care they provide our mom during her time of need. We would also like to thank First Baptist Gunter for hosting the family luncheon. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations to be made to First Baptist Church Gunter in the name of Betty Hunter.
