IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bill
Bennett
March 15, 1934 – July 11, 2023
John William "Bill" Bennett, 89, born March 15, 1934 joined his wife, Opal, in heaven on July 11, 2023 as he passed peacefully from this life to be with the Lord with his children and grandson by his side.
Bill was born to Loy D. and Euleta Louise Bennett in Sherman, TX and grew up working on the family farm near Dorchester, Tx developing a strong work ethic and becoming a Christian at an early age. He graduated from Sherman High School in 1952 and attended the University of North Texas in Denton. Bill made a career choice learning to lay brick and started a masonry contracting company initially working on residual ventures but eventually shifting his focus to commercial construction chiefly working for Wayne Emory Masonry for several decades. He ran a brick laying vocational school to prepare apprentice candidates in achieving their Journeyman designation. His expertise and ethical reputation for managing construction projects and crews was widely respected with Bill being called out of retirement twice in order to secure contracts from General Contractors for various larger projects.
Bill was known for loving the outdoors devoting much of his spare time in the earlier years taking multiple hunting and fishing trips, riding his motorcycle and flying his airplane. He was devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren making 'Family' the focus of his life. He married Opal Bartlett, his high school sweetheart, in 1953 and enjoyed 68 years of marriage until Opal's passing in early 2021.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Opal, and his son-in-law Richard 'Monk' Morrell. He is survived by his daughter Toni Morrell of Pottsboro, his son Richard Bennett and wife Angela, grandson Aaron Bennett and wife Rachel, grandson Adam Bennett, and great grandchildren Wyatt, Naomi, and Chandler Bennett - all of Sherman. He is also survived by special friends Mike and Judy Ciaccio and Michael Emory as well as supportive neighbors Diana and Bobby Richerson.
A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held at 9:00 a.m. on July 25, 2023 at Akers Cemetery under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home. Bill's cousin, Rev Jerry Scott, will be officiating the service.
The family would like to offer special thanks to the Medical staff in the ER and CV-ICU departments at TMC hospital for their special efforts and to Chaplain Chuck Dodd for his words of encouragement and special prayer.
