Bill Bundschuh
Sherman- Funeral Services for Norbert Joseph "Bill" Bundschuh will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 28 at Waldo Funeral Home with Charles Worley officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery with members of the Knights of Columbus serving as pallbearers and Father Antonio Aureus conducting committal rites. Mr. Bundschuh, 99-year-old gentleman, farmer, and rancher, passed away Saturday, March 24 at Wilson N. Jones Regional Medical Center.
Bill was born February 14, 1919 in Gainesville to the late Joseph and Louisa (Lang) Bundschuh. After the death of his father in 1920, his mother moved to Southmayd to raise Bill on the farm of her brothers, Leo and John Lang. The farm remains in the family today. Bill attended St. Joseph's Academy in Sherman, driving himself to school by the age of 14. He graduated from Southmayd High School. On November 24, 1944, Bill and Margaret Hazelwood were married in Sherman.
Bill and his uncles owned Allis-Chalmers Tractor in Sherman. Bill became regional manager transferring to Dallas as a Territory Mgr. in the 1960s. Wanting to raise his daughter near family, Bill became manager for Sears when it opened in Sherman. He retired from Sears in 1980.
Mr. Bundschuh was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sherman. He served as an usher and was on the cemetery committee. He was also a 4 th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus.
Mr. Bundschuh will be remembered as genuine, generous, and kind. He relished life and thought kindly of everyone. He took pleasure in simple things, like gardening, tending his cows, and spending time with family at get-togethers where looked forward to tasting everything on the sweet's table. He lived life on his own terms and was fiercely independent and resilient. H survived heart surgery in his 90s. H enjoyed sports and meeting new people. His generosity of spirit and unwavering belief in fairness will be forever missed.
He is survived by his daughter Rebecca Brooke and her husband Dan of Southmayd; nephew, Don Bundschuh and wife Donna of Sherman; great nephew John Bundschuh of Sherman; sister-in-law, Betty Martin of Sherman; and numerous other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret Hazelwood Bundschuh; one brother, Edward Bundschuh; and two uncles, Leo and John Lang.
A rosary will be recited at 5:30 PM Tuesday at Waldo Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:00 following the rosary.
