Bill Hames of Whitesboro, 74 year-old longtime trucking business owner, passed away Tuesday morning, June 16, 2009 at Whitesboro Nursing Center.
Services will be 10 AM Friday, June 19, 2009 in the Waldo Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Kelly Gray of the Apostolic Pentecost Church of Whitesboro and Brother David Gilbert of Truth Tabernacle United Pentecostal Church of Denison will officiate and the burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery.
Bill was born April 14, 1935 in Gainesville, Texas, the son of Albert Hames, Sr. and Ruby Roberts Hames. He moved to Sherman where he attended first grade, then moved to Achille, Oklahoma for a short time before moving to the Southmayd area where he attended fourth grade until graduating from Southmayd High School in 1955. He served in the National Guard from 1953 to 1959 and married Barbara Griffin in March of 1959 in Durant, Oklahoma. He was in the trucking business for fifty years, most of that time as a self employed trucker, and was known to haul anything that could be placed on his trucks. Bill also loved farming and providing custom combining all over Texas. He enjoyed riding his horses and was a member of the Grayson County Sheriffs Posse.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Hames of Whitesboro; son, David Hames and his wife Halima of Sherman; daughters, Kay Hames of Whitesboro and Darla Bell and her husband Kenny of Sherman; sister, Joyce Vick of Sherman; nine grandchildren, Rusty Hames, Hayden Hames, Chastin Bean, Zachary Bell, Gabriela Hames, John Hames, Grace Hames, Cody Bell and Zoe Faith Hames; also three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Albert Hames, Donald Hames and Allen Ray Hames.
Pallbearers will be nephews and grandsons, Johnny Vick, Randy Hames, Ronald Hames, Zachary Bell, Chastin Bean and Rusty Hames. Honorary pallbearers will be Cody Bell and John Hames.
The family will receive friends at Waldo Funeral Home from 6 to 8 PM Thursday evening.
