Bobby was born to parents, Willie Ben and Nola Mae (Bailey) Bell on July 23, 1927, in Anna, TX. He grew up farming alongside his family which included six sisters. He joined the US Army in 1945 and was discharged at the end of WWII in 1946. He met his future wife, Naomi Clinton, in 1948. They were married on July 23, 1948, in her family home. They lived in Sherman, TX for the rest of their lives.
Bobby joined the Sherman Police Department in 1950 as a patrolman. He was later promoted to Captain and remained in that position until his retirement in 1989. He served as a Mason and filled many office positions with various organizations in the community – 29th District Commander of the American Legion, Amvets, and a deacon at Kerr Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Bobby was a member of Kerr Chapel for many years until the church dissolved, then he moved his membership to Victory Missionary Baptist Church, Sherman. He was widely known for having taught First Aid.
Bobby and Naomi had three children between 1949 and 1962. He was a devoted Christian, an avid hunter and fisherman. He especially loved the fishing/camping trips to Padre Island with his buddies.
Bobby is predeceased by his wife, Naomi (Clinton) Bell, parents Willie Ben and Mae Bell, daughter Shirley Milner, sisters Lila Shugart, Dorothy Beck, Ila Welch, Billie Jean Souther, and Peggy Bury. He is survived by his sister, Frances of Sanger; two children, David W (Jo) of Sherman, Mary Hunter (Charles) of St Albans VT, grandson David A (Gina) of Sherman, great-grandchildren Chris Bell of The Colony, Allison Boyd (Phillip II) of Sherman, Kelsey of Midland, and Colton of Sherman, 5 great-great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted by Waldo Funeral Home. Family visitation will be Friday, November 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Saturday, November 4 at 2 p.m. Burial following at West Hill Cemetery. Lunch will be served prior to the services at Victory Missionary Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Retina Foundation of the Southwest, or to Victory Missionary Baptist Church.
