Obituary

In loving memory of our mother, Carol Ann Cannon Roelke, who passed away on October 12, 2023.

Carol was born in Crown Point Indiana, on August 11, 1936, to Harold Cannon and Frances Ann Cannon. She was the youngest of four siblings. She met the love of her life, Elroy Gene Roelke, after he won a bet with his friends about who could get a date with her. He proposed to her on April Fool's Day in 1955. They married July 1st of the same year, when she 18, after he graduated from law school.

They moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota and started a family of their own. Family was the most important thing to Carol. Her mother died when she was only 8 years old, so when she created her own family, she took great pride in raising her children and taking care of her home.

They moved for her husband's job multiple times before finally settling in Sherman, Texas in 1984. This is when they took over the management of their businesses, the Knollwood Daycare, and Knollwood Village Mobile Home Community. She and her husband established the city of Knollwood and opened their first liquor and beer store, nearest to Sherman, in 1986. She managed these stores for many, many years. She unsuccessfully retired multiple times, until she finally sold the Knollwood Stores and the Mobile Home Park.

She taught us the importance of family, hard work, and doing what is right. She was a strong woman who faced every challenge in her life with courage and dignity. She was a source of inspiration to us all. Carol was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother She was a very important part in all her family members' lives. She hosted all the holidays at her house and many Sunday dinners. She loved to cook and especially loved Thanksgiving and Christmas. She made these holidays very special for her family. She was the quintessential hostess for both family and business celebrations, welcoming to all. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Carol is survived by: Daughter Jean Roelke, Son-in-law Patrick Reardon; Daughter Amy Kerlin, Son-in-law Kenneth Kerlin; Son Richard Roelke, Daughter-in-law Leda Roelke; Son Thomas Roelke; Grandchildren Rhaine Murray, Erin Murray and husband Brent Fountain, Rory Murray and wife Melanie Makuch, Tessa Briger and husband Lucas, Ian Kerlin, Benjamin Roelke, Henri Roelke, Emma Roelke, Clinton Chandler, Joshua Roelke and wife Samantha, Scott Bowerman-Roelke, and Great-Grandchildren: Carson Vansickle, Tinsley Fountain, Laney Murray, Emily Murray, Aleksi Murray, Liam Roelke, and Cooper Roelke.
