Carrie Jo was born March 8, 1930, in Van Alstyne, TX to the late J.O. and Lydia (Douglas) Sterling. She graduated from Van Alstyne High School in 1946 at 16 and went on to graduate from North Texas State College (now UNT) at 19 and later earned a master's degree from East Texas State University. At 19 she began her teaching career in Denton.  After moving to Sherman in the early 50's, she continued her career primarily teaching English in Junior High and High School until her retirement in 1988 after 38 years of service. On June 1, 1955 she married Sam Wilson, also an educator with SISD and they were married until his death in 2015.

Carrie Jo was a 70-year member of FBC Sherman and especially fond of her Bible Study Class. Active involvement with youth was a priority in her younger years through Vacation Bible School, Director for Middle School Sunday School and adult sponsor for Firm Foundation choir tours.  Loaves of Love was another favorite ministry.  She was an active member of the FBC Triple LLL Club.

Mrs. Wilson is survived by a daughter, Suzie Sommerfeldt and husband Chris of Sherman; son Sam Wilson, Jr and wife Donna of Flower Mound; four grandchildren, Carrie Evans and husband Paul of Pilot Point, Sara Coleman and husband Chris of Flower Mound, Meredith Bird and husband Jordan of Aiken, S.C., and Melanie Greer and husband Gavin of Flower Mound; two step-grandchildren, Shelley Rios and husband Dan of San Antonio and Craig Sommerfeldt and wife Casey of Fort Worth; and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Sam and her parents.

In Lieu of Flowers, memorials may be made to the ministry of choice at First Baptist Church of Sherman at 400 S. Travis, Sherman, Texas 75090.

The family would like to extend our gratitude to Janet Ventura and her staff at Celebration Sr. Living for their love, care and friendship of our mother these past two years.  It's been her home and family.  In addition, the fine people at Birdie Hospice for their great care during these past days.
