Charlene "Shorty" Rowland, age 84, of Sherman, TX passed away Sunday, December 17, 2023, in Denison, TX.
She was born October 20, 1939, to Otto D. Everson and Ada (Samples) Everson in Quannah, TX. She graduated high school in El Dorado, OK. She married George Ezra Rowland on April 22, 1989, at Wynn Chapel, Austin College in Sherman.
Charlene had a smart and savvy business mind and worked her way up to Director of Financial Aid at Austin College. She instilled in her children a strong work ethic encouraging them that they could do anything they put their mind to. Her sense of humor was always on point, and she loved to laugh and play games with family and friends. She and George were members of Grand Avenue Presbyterian Church. She was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, playing cards and dominoes at family events.
Charlene was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother Margie Everson, sisters Dena Pierce and Earlene King.
She is survived by her husband George Rowland of Sherman, son Murray Nobles and wife Lori; daughter Vicki McConnell and husband Brad of Sherman, son Danny Rowland of Sherman, son Charles Rowland and wife Debbie of Pottsboro, son Tim Rowland and wife Galina of McKinney, sister Cherie Moon of Commanche, OK; grandchildren Travis Nobles of Sadler, Everson McConnell of Sherman, Dustin Rowland and wife Lindsey of Allen, Natasha and husband Greg Joseph of McKinney, Monica and husband Marshall of Dallas. She was blessed with many great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 21st at Grand Avenue Presbyterian Church at 2:00 PM with Dr. Lander Bethel officiating. Pallbearers will be Travis Nobles, Everson McDonnell, Brad McConnell, Murray Nobles, Dustin Rowland, and Danny Rowland. Honorary Pallbearers will be Charles Rowland and Tim Rowland. Burial will follow at Cedarlawn Memorial Park.
