Obituary

Charles Edward "Chuck" Bowman, born February 22, 1949, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025, at the age of 76.

Chuck was married for 59 years to the love of his life, Sandra "Sandy" Bowman. Their long and devoted marriage was a foundation of love, faith, and family that inspired everyone who knew them. Chuck was a dedicated father to three daughters (each of whom knew that they were his favorite): Sharon Nichols (Jon), Christie Bowman, and Lori Ballard (Tim). He was also a proud and loving grandfather to Jon Dale Nichols, David Nichols, Ashley Mobbs, Amanda Bowman-Getzelman, Alyssa Bowman-Getzelman, Jaylee Bowman, Nick Ballard, Tim Ballard, Jacob Ballard, and great granddaughter, Haylee. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Known affectionately as "Grandad," Chuck had a warm and playful spirit. He was famous for his jokes, always delivered with a twinkle in his eye. His grandchildren lovingly referred to them as "Grandad jokes" and often tried to outdo him with their own. He took joy in making others laugh, and his quick wit and humor were cherished by all who knew him. Beyond the jokes, Chuck shared special bonds with his grandkids playing games, watching movies, tinkering in his shop, and making memories that will be treasured forever. Chuck was a hardworking man throughout his life. He began his career at General Motors in Detroit, Michigan, where his dedication and drive led him to a supervisory role. Later, he and Sandy moved the family to Arkansas, where they spent several meaningful years running a small mom-and-pop country general store. Eventually, they settled in Colorado, where Chuck continued his hands-on work in park maintenance for Jefferson County and in maintenance for the local school district. One of Chuck's greatest strengths was his ability to understand how things worked—and how to fix them. After retiring, he found joy in his workshop, where he built furniture, birdhouses, and just about anything his family could dream up. His creations were more than just wood and nails - they were made with love and shared with pride. During retirement, Chuck and Sandy moved to Arizona, where they enjoyed several sunny, peaceful years together. Their final move brought them to Sherman, Texas, where they continued to share adventures traveling, family visits, and the deep bond that had defined their lives. Chuck and Sandy spent their entire lives on the go. Even as young parents, they never missed summer vacation with their girls—creating memories that are now treasured by their children. During their empty-nester years, they found joy in traveling together on cruises and visiting loved ones, continuing to explore and celebrate life side by side. Chuck will be remembered not only for his tireless work ethic but also for his generosity, sense of humor, and unwavering devotion to his family. His legacy lives on in the values he passed down, the joy he brought to everyday moments, and the many lives he touched with kindness and love. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at Western Heights Church of Christ in Sherman, Texas. Flowers may be sent to Western Heights Church of Christ, 800 Baker Park Dr., Sherman, Texas 75092.
