Obituary

Charles Lewis Hines was born April 14, 1940 in Sherman, Texas to Lewis H Hines and Lillian M (Allie) Hines. The family consisted of an older sister, Olyne, his parents and grew to include a younger sister, Etta, and a brother, Johnny. His parents were active in the church and set the example for their children.

Charles met the love of his life, Bertha M Hawthorn, while working at Burlington Industries. They married on October 17, 1958. On June 2, 1961 they welcomed their first child, Wayne. On January 29, 1964 they added a daughter, Pattie, followed by another son, Michael, on January 31, 1965.

He always had a smile and loved to joke around. He loved God, his family and friends. He was always willing to share God with everyone. He drove church buses, served as a Sunday School teacher and as the Sunday School Superintendent. He went on to be ordained as a deacon of Calvary Baptist Church, a position which he held at the time of his death.

After the closing of Burlington, Charles worked in a local print shop and then went on to work for the SISD as the school carpenter. This was the job he would have until his retirement.

After retirement he continued his passion for carpentry and wood working. He loved working with his hands…..except for plumbing…..he HATED plumbing. He could build anything with or without plans. He could perform almost any construction related job. He loved making wooden toys for his grandkids and the children at church. He also loved turning bowls and vases on his lathe. He enjoyed teaching his children wood turning and other carpentry. He also loved handing out candy to the children at church and they loved seeing him there. He was very loving and well loved by those that knew him.
