Obituary

Rev. Charles A. Sneed, Jr., "Charlie" went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 4, 2023 after a short illness. Charlie had a radical encounter with Jesus during his college years and was baptized in the North Park Baptist Church by Rev. Paul Wheelus. Charles surrendered to preach the gospel and served as a youth minister at North Park before taking the pastorate at Kentuckytown Baptist Church where he served from 1979 till 1989. He also pastored at Belmont Baptist in Denison as well as the Country Chapel in Denison. He also served as interim pastor and preached revivals throughout numerous churches   North Texas and Southern Oklahoma. He loved to minister at nursing homes in Grayson County where he would preach and accompany his music minister brother-in- law Denny Spradling on the mandolin. He loved to share the Good News about the Jesus who changed his life.  Church Softball and golf were favorite pastimes.

Charles was born in Greenville, Texas on October 27, 1947 to Charles A. Sneed, Sr. and Opal Childress Sneed. He attended Farmersville Schools before moving to Whitewright.  After graduating Whitewright schools, he attended Grayson College where he met his soon to be bride, Joella Spradling, while driving the Grayson School Bus. They were married at the North Park Baptist Church in Sherman by A.W. Blaine on June 27, 1970.  Shortly after finishing college, Charles went to work for Texas Instruments/Raytheon as a quality control inspector where he served until his retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Joella Spradling Sneed of Tom Bean, Tx., Sister Shirley Sneed.  Daughter and son-in-law, Christi and Logan Bartley of Denison. Granddaughter Emerald Carter and her husband Corey Carter of Sherman. Grandson, Geoffrey Bartley of Denison. He is also survived by nieces Amanda Spradling of Sherman, and Ashley Johnson of Gainesville and nephews Will Perkins of Ardmore and Michael Perkins of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland. He also had numerous great nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Family Visitation will be Friday July 7 from 6-8 PM at Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman with a Memorial Service on Saturday June 8, at 2:30 PM at Kentuckytown Baptist Church in Whitewright. In Lieu of flowers the family is asking that donations be made in his name to Quest Collegiate Academy – Whitewright 498 Bethel-Cannon Rd, Whitewright, TX 75491.

When he'd finished preaching, he turned back toward the window

and said a final prayer and went off to sleep

Somewhere in the darkness that preacher met his maker

And in his final word I found the strength I could keep.
