Charles (Chuck) Vaughn was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He left this world on October 6, 2021, surrounded by his family.

Chuck was born March 27, 1939, in Winfield, Kansas, to Francis and Margaret (Grande) Vaughn. He was the eldest of five brothers. Chuck married Phyllis Haney on October 20, 1961. They had a daughter, Mary-Margaret (Meg) Vaughn Austin and a son, Richard Wesley Vaughn.

Chuck graduated from San Benito High School, received his bachelor's degree from Sam Houston State University, and his Master of Social Work from Tulane University in 1966. He began a social work career of first serving children at Child Protective Services and then Brown School in Austin, and after coming to Sherman, he began a long career treating people with mental illness with MHMR Services of Texoma.

Chuck was an elder in Covenant Presbyterian Church. He also volunteered in various organizations, including the Crisis Center, Grayson County Juvenile Alternatives, and Grayson County Family Promise.

Among Chuck's many interests were bridge, sailing, and spending time in his special place, the family cabin in Colorado. He loved music and sharing this interest with grandchildren. He also enjoyed helping his friend, Mike Coulter, with estate sales and making trips to the junk yard with fellow picker, Joel Bassett. He loved keeping up with family and friends through telephone calls. He looked forward to reunions with a group of high school friends. He loved the Aggies.

Chuck's, or Pop as he was known to his grandchildren, special joy were interactions and conversations with grandchildren, Brian, James, Aaron and Abby.

He was preceded in death by his parents Francis Vaughn and Margaret Vaughn Sherman.

Chuck is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Phyllis Anne Haney Vaughn, daughter Mary-Margaret Vaughn Austin, son-in-law, Joel, son, Richard Wesley Vaughn, daughter-in-law, Susan, grandchildren

Brian David Austin, James Turner Austin, Aaron Hunter Vaughn, and Mary Abigail (Abby) Vaughn. Also surviving are his four brothers, Mark, wife Marilyn, Andy, wife Judy, Chris, wife Caralynn, and Ben. He is

also survived by many nephews and nieces.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at 2:00 pm, at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sherman. A reception will follow in Fellowship Hall.
