Sherman- Funeral services for Charley Hoyt Whitfield, Jr. will be held at 3:00 pm Friday, May 1 at the Grace Lutheran Church. Rev. Michael Mattil of the church will officiate with services under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be held in the Veteran's Section of Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Mr. Whitfield passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 27 while vacationing in St. James, Minnesota.
Charley was born July 5, 1928 in Mineola, Texas to the late Charley Whitfield Sr, and Vita (Carpenter) Whitfield. Charley served in the US Army Air Corp from 1946 to 1949. He worked as a maintenance mechanic at Johnson and Johnson for 30 years, retiring in 1989. In October of 1996, Chuck married Aline London in Sherman, Texas. He was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church. He enjoyed singing karaoke, woodworking, and traveling and will be deeply missed by his friends and family.
Mr. Whitfield is survived by his wife Aline of Sherman; three sons, Charles Whitfield and his wife Patricia of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Leonard Whitfield and wife Mildred of Denison, and Michael Whitfield of Butterfield, Minnesota; one daughter, Teresa Giles of Sherman; two step-sons, Charles Marquart of Sherman and David Flowers and wife Dedra, of Sherman; one step-daughter, Barbara Waldrop and husband Robert of Telephone, Texas; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Carolyn Whitfield.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at Waldo Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church at 2411 Woodlake Rd, Denison, TX 75020. The online register book can be signed at waldofuneralhome.com.
