Charlotte Galey Bulloch
March 14, 1928 - August 26, 2021
Charlotte Galey Bulloch departed this world on Thursday, August 26, 2021 in Dallas, TX after leading a full and interesting life over the past 93 years. Charlotte was born to Elsie and Al Galey on March 14,1928 in Whitewright, Texas and is survived by daughter Stephanie McDonald of Dallas and brother Jim Galey and his wife Ruth of Spring, Texas. She was predeceased by her husband of 49 years in 2002.
Raised in the countryside, Charlotte enjoyed the freedom and support provided by a community of family and friends that valued education, honesty, hard work and service to others. She loved going to school, graduated from Tom Bean high school and attended Austin College in Sherman, Texas where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Chi sorority and the A Capella Choir.
Ever the independent young woman, Charlotte pursued a career as an executive secretary and later turned to creative writing. She married Fred Bulloch, originally from Denison, in 1953 and they ultimately settled in Sherman along with their daughter Stephanie. It was at this point that Charlotte's interest in creative writing took hold and she completed her remaining coursework to earn a B.A. in English from Austin College. Charlotte loved to write, and was featured as a guest columnist in the Denison Herald, contributing special interest articles on a variety of seasonal topics.
As an active member of the Martha Jefferson Randolph chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution, Charlotte received special recognition in 2016 for achieving 50 consecutive years of active membership in the DAR. Equally important to Charlotte was her membership in the noontime Lions Club. She enjoyed the community service and camaraderie offered by the Lions and, if the truth be told, relished being one of the first women to join the noontime club.
Charlotte will be remembered for her beauty and great sense of style, her commitment to family, her intelligence and incredible wit. She appreciated all forms of art and instilled in her daughter a love for music, history and the English language. Anyone who spent time with Charlotte will recall the mischief and sense of fun she imparted. Charlotte was fiercely independent and forged her own, unique path to the very end. She was extraordinary in every way and will be sorely missed by those who love her.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 11, 2021 in the Majors Chapel at Wynne Chapel on the Austin College campus. The service will be followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sherman Noontime Lions Club, the Martha Jefferson Randolph Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution or Austin College.
