Obituary

Charlotte Ann Patterson

July 18, 1943 - August 21, 2026

Charlotte Ann Patterson, 83, of Sherman, Texas, passed away on August 21, 2026, leaving behind a lasting legacy of faith, family, creativity, and entrepreneurship. Charlotte was a 1961 graduate of Sherman High School and attended Grayson County College.

Charlotte was born on July 18, 1943, in Sherman, Texas, the daughter of Frances L. Morris Smith and Bob Smith. Charlotte had one brother, Douglas Dewayne Scrivner Smith. Creativity was part of Charlotte's life from an early age. Her mother, Frances, was also artistic and enjoyed creating handmade crafts, and Charlotte carried that creative spirit forward in her own distinctive way.

Charlotte became a talented artist whose creativity ultimately grew into a successful career. She was the owner of C. Patterson Advertising, a Sherman-based advertising, sign, and design company through which she combined her artistic abilities with a strong entrepreneurial spirit. Through Patterson Advertising, Charlotte worked with businesses, schools, organizations, and communities throughout North Texas, creating signs, graphics, artwork, and other visual projects that became part of the landscape of the region.

Charlotte was not simply a business owner who happened to be artistic. She was an artist who built a business around her ability to create. Her artistic work extended beyond traditional advertising. Among her memorable contributions was a mural in Van Alstyne, Texas, along with numerous school gym graphics, signs, paintings, and commercial designs created throughout her career. Whether she was transforming a wall with artwork, creating a sign for a local business, or developing a project intended to last for decades, Charlotte approached her work with both the eye of an artist and the determination of an entrepreneur. It remains on walls, signs, buildings, and in communities throughout North Texas. Long after a project was completed, a piece of Charlotte remained with it. Generations of people have seen - and will continue to see - pieces of her life's work.

At the center of Charlotte's life was her faith in God. Faith was an important part of her life and remained a source of strength, guidance, and comfort throughout her life. It shaped the way she approached her family, her work, and the many seasons of her life. Charlotte's faith and belief in Jesus Christ gave her a strong sense of purpose and helped guide the values she passed on to her family. She shared her faith with everyone she came in contact with and frequently encouraged others by pointing upward and telling them to “Remember who the boss is!” Colossians 3:23 and “Look up and be ready!” 1 Thessalonians 4:14-18.

As meaningful as Charlotte's artistic and professional accomplishments were, her family remained among the greatest part of her life. She cherished her family and her animals. She took immense pride in each of them and the people they had become. Their accomplishments, milestones, and everyday moments brought her immeasurable joy, and she treasured every opportunity to celebrate them. Her love for her family was unwavering and was reflected in the countless ways she supported, encouraged, and prayed for them. Her greatest joy was seeing her loved ones happy and knowing that she had played a part in their lives. She will be remembered for the deep love she had for her family and friends and for the lasting warmth and happiness she brought to all who knew her.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, Frances L. Smith and Bob Smith, and her brother, Douglas Dewayne Scrivner Smith. Charlotte is survived by her children, daughter, Mignon Plyler and spouse David, and her son Michael Patterson and wife Teresa; grandchildren: Ashley Stedman and spouse Eli, Kory Plyler, Adam Patterson and fiance Tenielle James, Alexey Lee and spouse Adam, Katie Henderson and spouse James; Meggan Blevins and spouse Brett. Great grandchildren: Grayson, Savanah and Emma Adams, Banks Patterson, Oliver and Beau Lee, Theodore Henderson, and Annie and Elizabeth Blevins.

To those who knew her best, Charlotte was much more than the artist behind a mural or the owner of a successful local business. She was a beloved mother, family member, friend, artist, entrepreneur, and woman of faith whose personality and creativity became woven into the lives of those around her.

Her family will forever cherish the stories, laughter, lessons, artwork, faith, and memories she leaves behind. While her passing brings great sadness, there is comfort in knowing that Charlotte spent her life creating things meant to last, loving her family, and placing her trust in something eternal and they will see her again one day in Heaven. Charlotte Ann Patterson will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and the community whose landscape still carries evidence of her creativity.

Visitation will be held at Waldo Funeral Home on Friday, August 28, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A private graveside service will be held prior to the memorial service. A memorial service celebrating her life will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, at North Park Baptist Church in Sherman, Texas.

An artist leaves a little of herself in everything she creates. Charlotte left pieces of herself all around us -

and a legacy of faith, family, and creativity that will continue for generations.
