IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Chris Jon
Patterson
November 27, 1951 – March 22, 2024
Chris Jon Patterson passed away on March 22, 2024. He was born on November 27, 1951 in Sherman, Texas, the second of three children born to L. Harvey Patterson and Bertha Irene (Walker) Patterson.
Chris spent his formative years in Odessa and Sherman, where his father worked as an agricultural mechanics teacher. He attended Sherman High School and served as the FFA and student council president, graduating in 1970. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Agricultural Science from Texas A&M Commerce.
Chris worked on pipelines in Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Alaska and the continental United States. In 1981, he obtained his auctioneer license and with long-time friend, David, started Whitlock-Patterson Auction Service in Bells. He was also a self-employed horse trader and owned Patterson Backhoe Service.
In 1988, Chris married Debra Musick and built his family's home in Bells. He began his career with the United States Department of Agriculture in the early 1990s, retiring in 2013.
During his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends or relaxing in his chair watching old westerns.
Those around him knew Chris as a good ol' country boy. It was rare to catch him without his cowboy hats, boots, and starched jeans. He had a big heart for all kinds of animals and a unique ability to make people laugh with his witty remarks.
Chris was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Henry Weaver.
Chris is survived by his sister Linda Weaver and brother Dean Patterson; son Nick Young (wife Heather); daughter Kristen Washburn (husband Ben); and daughter Melody Rodgers (husband Trey). He is also survived by his eight grandchildren: Auburn Young, Eli Young, Barrett Washburn, Ty Rodgers, Blevins Washburn, Levi Young, Baylon Washburn, and Zade Rodgers. He leaves behind numerous cousins, friends, nieces, and nephews.
In memory of Chris, we celebrate this Texas cowboy's life and the many ways he touched the lives of those around him. He will be missed dearly, but his memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the thestrokefoundation.org; Animal Rescue Foundation of Grayson County; or Bells Education Foundation.
