Graveside Services will be held on May 3, 2024, at 1 p.m. at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway Dallas, TX.
Danny was born on September 29, 1947, in the quaint town of Cordova, Alabama, to Roma Cochran and his adopted father, Charles Wilcocks. From his earliest days, Danny's love for adventure and the great outdoors was evident. He found solace and joy in fishing and crabbing, passions he lovingly shared with his cherished family on vacations and over the years. It was on their first date, fishing on the Potomac River where he reeled in the love of his life, Margaret.
At 18 years old, Danny enlisted in the United States Army Infantry as an Infantry Mortarman, proudly serving overseas for 3 years and rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant. His service included 18 months stationed at the Korean DMZ following the North Korean capture of the U.S.S. Pueblo. Danny was honored to serve our Country and was a proud Service-Disabled Vietnam-Era Veteran.
Yet, it was in his unwavering faith in Jesus Christ where Danny found his true purpose. At the age of 15, Danny accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior, embarking on a lifelong journey devoted to the teachings of our Lord, Jesus Christ. His commitment to God was palpable, evident in his selfless service within the church community. From leading children's ministries, church transportation, to serving as a trusted Deacon, Danny's life exemplified the love and compassion of Jesus Christ. His relationship and communication with God was admired by all of his family; whom he prayed for daily by name. His relationship with God gives us comfort during this time of our loss and Heaven's gain.
Danny met his lifelong love, Margaret, while they were both working in the transportation industry. In November 1974, Danny sealed his love for Margaret and her two young children, Donna and Ingrid, when they joined in Holy matrimony, marking the beginning of a beautiful partnership that spanned five decades. One month after celebrating their first wedding anniversary, Danny proudly welcomed his son, Jason, into their lives, affectionately dubbing him his "pride and joy". Together, Danny and Margaret raised a loving family and built a legacy of enduring love, loyalty, and devotion. A legacy his growing family will cherish and preserve.
During his tenure in the transportation industry across Northern and Central Virginia, Danny not only dedicated himself to his profession but also cherished the invaluable moments he shared with his children and grandchildren. He particularly enjoyed the opportunity to be a stay-at-home-grandpa to his first Granddaughter, Christina, in her early years. Whether it was nurturing his granddaughters after school, spending leisurely summers together, or celebrating special occasions, Danny's bond with each one of his grandchildren was truly special.
Danny and Margaret embarked on a new chapter of their lives when they moved to Sherman, Texas in 2014. Here, he continued to weave precious memories with his youngest grandchildren. An avid football fan, Danny was proud to cheer on his grandsons from the bleachers during each of their football games. From shared laughter to heartwarming moments, their bond grew stronger with each passing day. Amidst the whirlwind of life, he found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of his wife, children, and grandchildren, leaving an indelible mark and legacy on all of their hearts and minds.
Let us honor his memory by embracing the values he held dear: unwavering Faith, family, and unconditional love. Though he may no longer walk among us, his spirit will continue to guide, inspire, and comfort us each day.
Danny is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Chuck and Roma, and brother, Scott Wilcocks.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 and a half years, Margaret Wilcocks, his brother, Mark Wilcocks. Danny also leaves behind a devoted family: his son, Jason and wife Christina; along with their children Brandon and wife Kursty; Benjamin; Brooklyn; and Brittyn. Additionally, he is survived by his daughter, Donna Hansen; and daughter Ingrid and her husband, Jessie Young. His legacy also continues through his grandchildren: Christina Schwartz; Lauren and Dan Henderson III, great-grandson "Danny" Henderson IV; Michelle and Matt Wesley, and great-granddaughters Sophia and Charlotte Wesley.
The family wishes to thank everyone who has offered their support, love, and condolences during this time of loss and remembrance. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Grayson Bible Baptist Children's Ministry.
