Darlene Johnson Duke, age 79, of Sherman, joined our Lord in the Kingdom of Heaven Monday, September 17th, 2023. She was born in Denison, Tx on January 16th, 1944. Her parents were Betty Jo and Walter D. Johnson. She married Gordon Ray Duke of Sherman, Tx on July 4th, 1973. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

She graduated from Denison High School in 1962 and was in Rainbow Girls. She began her career with a love of construction at Schellenburger, followed by employment at Duke Electric Company, Sherman Pediatrics, and Texoma Health Care. Her beauty showed inside and out as a devoted Christian, wife, mother, and daughter. She was outgoing and a shining example of love to her family, church family, friends, and coworkers. She highly enjoyed celebrating life with birthdays and holidays were made exceptionally special. Watching Dallas Cowboys and Texas Tech football, shopping, cooking and baking, yardwork and gardening, movies, and crosswords were some of her favorite activities.

Her parents and grandparents, Dollie and J.C. Little preceded her in death. She will be incredibly and dearly missed by her husband, Gordon Ray Duke, son and daughter in law, David and Jennifer Duke, daughter, Dollie Duke, and grandchildren, Dominick Duke and Betty "Charlie" Showman.

She leaves behind two nieces, Leasha Johnson and Kristina Ezell, their children, three sisters, Betty Bender, Sherry, and Susan, by marriage, the Rushes, and countless other family members and friends.

A service will be held, Thursday, September 21, at Forest Avenue Baptist Church at 2 p.m. and there will be a viewing for family and friends at 1 p.m. prior to the service at Forest Avenue Baptist Church.
