Darrell was born on January 6, 1953 at St. Vincent hospital in Sherman, Texas to the late Clayton and Alba Lee (Pike) Brooks. Darrell graduated from Texas A&M and received a degree in Journalism. He is survived by his wife, Karen Brooks; brother, Royce(Sherrill) Brooks; niece, Leigha Lynette Brooks; children, Kathryn (Shad) Bockover, Armanda Lester, Joshua (Natasha) Lester, and Zachary (Brandi) Lester; grandchildren, Fredericka Bockover, Kadden Lester, Peyton Lester, Mason Lester, Tressel Bockover, Jaxon Lester, Myah Lester, and Morghan Lester.

Darrell was a man of many talents. He had careers which lead him all over the country. While on his professional travels he met a woman of his dreams in Ohio, which he later married. While in Ohio he enjoyed being step-father and a step-Grandfather to many children and grandchildren. While in Ohio one of his favorite times and memory is being the loud but famous announcer during the plays that the children would perform during family holidays or parties. He was called to return to Texas and on his return he brought with him the new family roots of Ohio to Texas. On his return to Texas he enjoyed spending time on the family farm with his family and friends. Darrell had great pride in his family and the traditions his Parents had developed in Texas, one of those to mention would be the family brand 0-Bar-0 (O-O). Darrell's best times on the family farm involved his older brother Royce and those times were the most talked about to the children and grandchildren. Darrell was known for many great cooking recipes and had a love for being the Chef at any family function. Darrell had a great joy in watching football and cheering for his favorite teams. Darrell will always be remembered for his honesty, family pride, and loving soul.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton and Alba Lee Brooks and one nephew, Jared Brooks.
