Daryl Glen
Baker
Oct 1, 1962 — Jan 29, 2022
Sherman
Daryl Glen Baker, age 59, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, January 29, 2022. Even though his heart failed and took him away, his loving heart remains a bright light to us all. Daryl was born October 1, 1962, to his mother, Patsy Smith Baker and father, Bert T Baker. He was raised in Sherman, graduating in 1981.
Daryl began working for the City of Sherman while in high school and retired as the Superintendent of Utilities after 40 years in 2020. He truly enjoyed helping meet the needs of the citizens and businesses in our community during his career and made many, many friends along the way.
Daryl knew how to appreciate life as he liked nothing more than firing up his smoker before dawn in anticipation of inviting folks over for some food, fun and always lots of laughter. The garage is what he coined his "sportatorium" where he enjoyed entertaining, seeing the wildlife and playing with his sausage dog, MollyB. He enjoyed attending and watching sporting events and spent many years with his Nascar buddies. Everyone knows what a prankster Daryl could be, he kept you on your toes! He had fun playing with the neighborhood dogs, feeding the birds and just being outdoors enjoying nature. Daryl and Lisa were married on the beach at Mustang Island in 2008 and spent many sunny vacations together at South Padre Island over the years.
Daryl's greatest joy was spending time with his family, and he will be greatly missed by all who loved him, especially his close relatives. Daryl was predeceased by his parents and brother Bert Baker, Jr. and his brother-in-law Marvin Watson.
Daryl is survived by his wife, Lisa King Baker, sisters Judie Watson and Patti Jo Schnitker, sister-in-law Patsy Baker, nieces Jana Wentworth, Kelly Wentworth, Jodi Withers, Jennifer Witt and nephew Don Chennault and several great nieces and nephews.
