IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Derlie Mae
Muston
March 17, 1935 – December 16, 2024
Derlie Muston of Sherman Texas passed away on December 16, 2024. She was a devoted Wife for 74 years and the loving mother of 4 children, proud grandmother to 4 grandchildren and proudest ever great grandmother of her 4 great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed her 5 nephews and 5 nieces throughout her life.
Derlie was born in Abilene Texas, on March 17, 1935 to Father, Obie Campbell and Mother, Vida Bell Caudle Campbell. She was a people person from an early age and never met a stranger. She attended schools in Abilene from elementary through High School.
She married Jerry Muston on October 13, 1951 and during that time they lived in many different places. Jerry served in the Navy and during a portion of that time they were stationed in Charleston, South Carolina. After the Navy tour, they lived in Abilene for a while and then when Jerry began his oil field work, they moved to Monahans, Tx, McCamey, Tx, Iraan, Tx. In 1961 they moved to Harding Montana and then Fort Morgan, Colorado. They were transferred back to Texas after a year. Derlie said NO more Moves for a while. They moved to Kingsville, TX and lived there for 6 years and then they were transferred to McAllen Tx where they arrived just in time for Hurricane Beulah. They stayed in McAllen until 1997 when they moved to Gunter, Texas to be closer to their daughters. Derlie and Jerry moved to Sherman in 2016 when keeping up the big house became too much for them.
Derlie's first job was gift wrapping at a department store in Abilene. During her time in Kingsville, when her kids were young, she sold Tupperware, Avon, and Mary Kay. When they moved to McAllen she began her career as a church secretary, and she continued that work for over 30 years. After Derlie & Jerry moved to Gunter she went to work in her daughters accounting office for about 10 years. She always enjoyed meeting people and loved almost everyone that she met.
Derlie loved singing and had a beautiful Alto voice. She shared her talent by singing in weddings and at funerals and other events. She sang with Sweet Adelines for a time and traveled to many events.
Derlie and Jerry were members at Western Heights Church of Christ for about 20 years. Derlie immediately joined a ladies bible class and participated in church activities and service. She also joined a birthday club that met monthly and she always looked forward to that lunch with the ladies. She was also a member of the Red Hats for a time and loved it!
Derlie was a fantastic cook and always had plenty of good food prepared if you visited with her, at her home. She loved cooking for family on holidays and anytime she got the chance. Everyone loved her homemade rolls and pie crusts. She made awesome Italian Cream cake, Buttermilk pie, and Sunday Roast with Potatoes and Carrots.
She loved her family and worried about each of them, as all Mother's do. She was always available to listen and advise anyone that needed her.
Derlie had many travel adventures including multiple train rides in Durango Colorado and Chama New Mexico. She went on cruises to Alaska and the Carribean. She enjoyed a bus tour through the New England States and visited many beautiful sites.
Of all the things Derlie was, she was a devoted Christian first. She always served the Lord in everyway that she could. She was truly a servant to God's work.
Derlie is preceded in death by her father, Obie Campbell, her mother Vida Belle Campbell, her brother Wayne Elliott Campbell, her granddaughter Kristen Streetman, and her son -in law Roger Streetman.
