Obituary

Diana V. Avila, 74, of Sherman, Texas passed away on August 18, 2025, lovingly surrounded by family. Diana was born on December 27, 1950, in Beeville, Texas. She is the daughter of Felicita Garibay and Jose Vasquez. Diana went to school in Floydada, Texas and went to college at Cameron University to achieve her bachelor's in education. Diana worked at Piner Middle School for 32 years. On January 2, 1971, Diana married the love of her life, Tomas Avila Sr. in Altus, Oklahoma at the Prince of Peace Church. Diana was dedicated to her faith and faithfully attended St. Mary's Catholic Church. Diana enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by her children, Stephen Rincon of Sherman, Rhonda Marroquin and husband Henry of Sherman, Susanna Avila of Arlington, Tom Avila Jr., of Spring, Texas, seven grandchildren, Roozie, Roxy, Nicky, Steven, Anthony, Michael, Thomas, five great-grandchildren Nevah, R.J., Vincent, Aria, Benjamin, sister, Susan Avila of Fort Worth, brother, Fred Garibay of Napa, California, brother, Roy Garibay of Abernathy, sister Rosie Williamson of Plainview, Texas, sister, Reina Garcia of Sherman, Texas, sister, Raquel Guerrero of Sherman, Texas, and brother, Rudy Garibay of Amarillo, Texas, and many nieces, nephews, godchildren.

Diana is preceded in death by sister, Lanora Kohut, brother Joe Vasquez, sister Rebecca Felix, and her cousin raised as a sister, Hortencia Castillo. She also had two siblings pass away in infancy.

Pallbearers will be Roozie Marroquin, Nicky Marroquin, Steven Rincon Jr., Anthony Rincon, Michael Rincon, and Ivan Hernandez.

The rosary will be held on Thursday, August 28, 2025, from 6 pm until 6:30 pm with the visitation following directly after at Waldo Funeral Home.

Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 29, 2025, at Saint Anne's Catholic Church, burial will follow at Saint Mary's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to some of Diana's favorite associations; Saint Mary's Church, Hispanic Heritage Council, Prince of Peace Church, G.I. Forum, or the American Diabetes Association.
