Donald Robert Burt – Sherman, Texas

Donald Robert Burt was born on February 17, 1930 in Cushing Oklahoma to Ralph and Pearl Burt and passed away peacefully from this life on January 16, 2019. He was raised in Arkansas City, Kansas where he graduated from high school in 1948. Following high school, Don immediately went to work in the railroad industry and performed various jobs.  Don also married Maxine Reber in 1951 and to this union was born two boys, David Burt of Sherman, Texas and Steven Burt of Edmond, Oklahoma.

Don joined the United States Army in 1951 and served during the Korean War.  He also joined the Arkansas City, Masonic Lodge that same year and obtained his 32 nd degree in the Scottish-Rite of the Wichita, Kansas Consistory.

After discharge from the Army in 1953 Don returned to a lifetime career in the railroad industry and worked at various jobs to eventually become a locomotive engineer.

Don also loved to work on outboard motors and boats and maintained a part time repair shop in Guthrie, Oklahoma for many years.  Additionally, Don was very interested in flying and obtained his private pilot's license in 1960 and later obtained his instructor's license and other flight related licenses.

Don Retired from Santa Fe Railroad in 1992 after 48 years of service.  He and Maxine spent many vacations and retirement years traveling to various lakes, rivers and other scenic locations across the country.

Don is survived by his wife of 67 years, Maxine Burt; his son David Burt and wife Theresa of Sherman, Texas; his son Steven Burt and wife Julie of Edmond, Oklahoma.  Also one sister, Delores Mc Glasson of Coffeeville, Kansas and grandsons David Burt Jr. of Plano, Texas, Brian Cowger of Hong Kong, China and granddaughter Deana Cowger of Plano, Texas.

He is proceeded in death by his parents Ralph and Pearl Burt of Arkansas City, Kansas.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at the Waldo Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the West Hill Cemetery in Sherman.

The family will receive friends on Monday, January 21 st from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Waldo Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman.

Memorials may be given to North Park Baptist Church Building Fund with Waldo Funeral Home acting as custodian.
