Funeral services for Donald E. Turner, age 90, of Sherman, TX will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at the Parkside Baptist Church in Denison, TX. Dr. Chet Haney of Parkside Baptist Church will officiate and burial will follow at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman. Arrangements are under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman.
Donald passed away on January 13, 2012 in Sherman.
He was born in Arkansas City, KS on June 16, 1921. After graduating from high school he attended Arkansas City Junior College. He married Betty Graham on December 1, 1944. Donald served in the Army Air Force. He was a faithful member of Parkside Baptist Church. He loved his Church and spent many hours doing volunteer work and serving the Lord With his Gifts. Donald was a family man who loved spending time with his family and grandkids and great grandkids.
In his early school days he studied and played the violin. In high school and Junior college, he continued to play the violin in the school orchestra, going on to the Symphony Orchestra and even the special orchestra where they played for "The Messiah", school plays and school proms.
Donald retired from Management from the Grocery Store Business and later retired again from Prestonwood Baptist church where he and Betty served in the maintenance Department for 10 years.
Another ministry that Donald and Betty served together was catering for church wedding receptions. They did this together for 5 years.
He is survived by his wife Betty Turner, daughter, Sharon "Sherry" McClean and husband Steve of Denison, TX, son, Rod Turner and wife Melinda of Saratoga Springs, Utah, five grandchildren, Wade McClean and wife Misty of Beebe, AR, Amy McMillon and husband Brad of Sherman, TX, Jennifer Brinkman and husband Brandon of Aledo, TX, Deon Nelson of Tampa, FL and Justin Turner and wife Carrie of Dallas, TX. Donald is also survived by 12 great grandchildren and seven nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Lela Turner. Two brothers, Virgil and Gerald Turner and one sister, Marjorie Colbert.
Family night will be held on Monday, January 16th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Waldo Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Wade McClean, Brad McMillon, Brandon Brinkman, Justin Turner, Freddie Perkins and Dale Ross.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Parkside Baptist Church Music Ministry.
