Obituary

Donna Staggs, age 81, passed away October 10th in Sherman, Texas.

Donna was born August 14, 1944, in Sherman to Raymond G. and Thelma (Sutherland) Martin.  She graduated from Sherman High School and later married David W. Staggs Sr.

Donna was known for her big heart, her love of family – and shopping.  A self-proclaimed shop-a-holic, Donna had a passion for the stores, and the stores loved her right back.  After a day of shopping, she'd often sneak in with a smile, whispering to her kids, "Shhhh, don't tell dad – I've got more bags in the car!"  It was a running joke in the house that always brought laughter and eyerolls in equal measure.

Donna also loved to cook, always making more than enough in case someone dropped by at mealtime; and occasionally, someone did.  Her home was a place of welcome, warmth, and full plates.

Donna was a bank teller for over 40 years and took great pride in her work.  Nothing made her smile more than running into a former client who remembered her.  She had a gift for making people feel seen, whether they were across the counter or across the street.

Her faith was central to her life.  A devoted member of Grayson Bible Baptist Church, she served as a greeter for over 30 years, always offering a friendly face and kind word to everyone who walked through the doors.

Above all, Donna deeply loved her family.  As a young girl, she helped raise her younger siblings, acting more like a second mother than a sister. That nurturing spirit carried on throughout her life.  She was immensely proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and never stopped worrying about them – because that's just what moms and grandmas do.

Donna was also proud to be a military wife.  She cherished the many people she met over the years and was grateful for the opportunity to travel and experience life in different parts of the world.

Her love, laughter, and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Donna is survived by her daughter Dianna Bankston (Garry) of Sherman; son David Staggs Jr. (Tracy) of Sherman; grandchildren Blaire Verzi (Derek), Whitney Wheeler of Sherman, Brooke Lawton (Jacob) of Longview; great grandchildren Joshua Billingsley, Kaden Davis, Aubrey Davis, Ava Verzi, Ryan Verzi.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband David W. Staggs, grandson Drew Staggs, brother-in-law Lee Staggs, sister-in-law Jo Ann Staggs and nephew Michael Staggs.
