Doris Lorene
Shearin
October 26, 1925 – March 29, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Doris Lorene Blassingame Shearin. Known for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit, she touched the lives of all who knew her. Her legacy will live on in the cherished memories and love she shared with us all. We invite friends and loved ones to join us in celebrating her remarkable life at services to be held at Victory Baptist Church at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 3. Lunch will follow, with interment to be held at Laurel land Memorial Park, 6000 S R.L. Thornton Freeway, Dallas, Texas at 3:00. Laurel Land Funeral Home will be handling services.
Doris was born October 26, 1925, in Sadler, TX, and passed March 29, 2026 at Cedar Hollow under the care of Hospice Plus. She was born to Walter R. and Ella A. Blassingame, the fifth of nine children. Doris was preceded in death by both her parents, seven of her siblings, her spouse of 66 years H. Earl Shearin, and one son, Robert W. Shearin. She is survived by her two daughters, Jeanne Cummings and Aleta Oppermann-Kimbell (spouse Pat), sister, Luella Brandenburg (spouse Kenneth), seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grand children, and twelve great great grandchildren, and a special great great grandchild on the way, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Doris attended high school in Denison, TX married Earl Shearin in 1942, later moving to the Duncanville, TX area to secure work. Doris was a diligent worker and was rewarded with raises and promotions in almost every position she held. She began work as a clerk in a loan office on Jefferson Boulevard in Oak Cliff. She became an officer in that company before moving to the Army-Air Force Exchange Services, retiring as a procurement officer, writing government contracts.
Doris was always involved in service to others, to her church, or to her family. She taught Sunday School for many years, leading the young people’s department much of that time.
Doris and Earl flipped old houses before it was fashionable on t.v. This extra income stream afforded them many trips, to Europe, England, Scotland, Ireland, Las Vegas (Earl’s favorite). They traveled with dear friends, Sue and Jerry Duke and Sammi and Gale Parkman, creating memories that lasted a lifetime.
Doris was caretaker for her mother, and later, her spouse when he developed Alzheimer’s.
Because of this, her life narrowed significantly in her later years, but she always remained positive, stayed active in her church, enjoyed her family, loved seeing her grandchildren, or beating everyone in a brisk game of dominoes.
The family would like to thank Hospice Plus for their dedicated staff and the wonderful care they provided Doris. She was particularly appreciative of the excellent services and love she received from Nicole Boaz and Jessica Wilson.
Although Doris loved beautiful flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to Grand Central Station, 619 E. Houston Street, Sherman, TX 75090. This facility offers free hot lunches to anyone in need, as well as a food pantry, showers, laundry and other support services.
