Obituary

Douglas Berg, age 82, of Honey Grove, Texas, passed away on Monday, June 23, 2025, in Paris, Texas. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and retired bus driver. Douglas enriched the lives of all who knew him.

Born on February 14, 1943, to Phillip Berg and Oleta Grant Berg. Douglas grew up in Bailey, Texas, before settling in Honey Grove. He held a deep love for his family and found immense joy in life's simple pleasures, especially sitting in his lazy boy watching an old western. Douglas's happiest moments were those spent playing with his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating cherished memories they will carry forward.

Douglas proudly served his country in the United States military from 1961 to 1963. Following his service, he spent many years traveling the roads as a driver for Greyhound, where he was known for his professionalism, calm demeanor, and dedication to passenger safety. Later in life, he brought that same spirit of care and reliability to Bonham ISD, where he worked as a school bus driver until his retirement. He was deeply appreciated by students, parents, and colleagues alike for his kind heart and steady presence.

Douglas was a man of quiet strength, known for his warm smile, deep integrity, and unwavering love for his family. Whether he was sharing stories from the road, lending a helping hand, or simply sitting on the porch enjoying the day, he made everyone around him feel welcome and valued.

Douglas was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Ruby Berg; his parents, Philip and Olita Berg; and his siblings.
He is survived by his son, Michael, and his wife, Cindy; his grandchildren, Luke and his wife, Ashley, Danielle and her husband, Cody, and Preston; and his great-grandchildren, Tinley, Abigail, and Swayze.
