DOYLE RAYMOND HENSON OBITUARY
Doyle Raymond Henson, age 92, of Sherman, TX, passed away on July 20, 2022 at Sunrise Frisco after a brief hospital stay.
Doyle, also known as Dad, Daddy, and Grandad, was born on July 13, 1930 in his maternal grandparents' home between Wirt and Healdton, OK. He considered Wirt, OK his hometown.
Doyle earned his sports letterman jacket and graduated from Dundee High School in 1948. He was a leader in football, basketball, and track. After attending Southeastern State College (now SOSU) for a year, he transferred to OU, where he majored in Petroleum Engineering. Along with his studies at OU, he worked as a fireman and policeman for the City of Norman until August of 1953, when he joined the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant. He served at Fort Lee, VA and Lenggries, Germany and was promoted to First Lieutenant before returning to the U.S in 1955 and placed on Reserve status for six years.
In 1957, Doyle went to work for NL Baroid as a Drilling Fluids Engineer. In his 28 years at NL Baroid, he advanced through many management roles, retiring in 1985 as an Executive Account Representative. During this time, he and his family lived and worked in Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Colorado, and Greece. After his retirement, he worked briefly for an oilfield services company before starting his own business assembling equipment for retail stores in the DFW Metroplex. In 1992, he moved to Sherman and spent his remaining years working in his yard and gardens.
While his military and professional history truly reflected his work ethic, Doyle was very devoted to his family. For the final 30 years of his life, he excelled as a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great-great grandfather. He was very proud of his large family, and was known for sharing stories of his family to friends and acquaintances.
He is preceded in death by his wife of over 64 years Barbetta Henson; his parents, Clarence R. and Evelyn B. Henson; grandsons Christopher Michael Collier and Alan Eugene Jayne.
He is survived by his sisters Mary Lambert, Sarah Shelton and her husband John, and Donna Owens and her husband Clinton; daughters Sheri Henson Wallace and Laura Henson Gerac; son Michael Raymond Henson and his wife Julie.
