Muriel Detro, resident of Longview, Texas passed away Monday, July 20 at the age of 95.

Muriel “Myrt” Detro’s Recipe for a Beautiful Life

Ingredients:

  • 1 faithful heart
  • 1 lifelong love story with Roy
  • 4 cherished children
  • 8 grandchildren
  • 14 great-grandchildren
  • 1 great-great-granddaughter
  • Homemade noodles, pizza and fresh baked rolls
  • Ballgames playing from the kitchen television
  • Euchre and Blitz around the table
  • An open door and a welcoming home
  • Endless love served daily

Her recipe was simple:

  • Gather family often
  • Feed them well
  • Laugh loudly
  • Pray through every season
  • Love fiercely
  • And always make room for one more at the table
  • Pass traditions down generously for generations to come

She was born March 28, 1931 in Greencastle, Indiana and attended Greencastle schools throughout her school years. She married the love of her life, Roy Detro on July 23, 1949 and celebrated 65 years of marriage before Roy’s passing in 2014.

She was predeceased by her husband, Roy, her parents (Dee Scaggs and Minnie Lee Blankenbecker Scaggs), five brothers and four sisters.

She is survived by sons and daughter-in-laws, Gary and Rhonda Detro of Bryan, Mike and Linda Detro of Sherman, Darrell and Vicki Detro of Paradise Valley, Az and daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Doug Britain of Longview. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and their spouses, fourteen great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.

In honor of Myrt, the family encourages loved ones to gather together, share a meal, watch a ballgame, play a hand of cards, and hold tightly to the people they love — just as she always did best.

The family expresses a special thanks to the amazing Harbor staff at Buckner Westminster Place in Longview and Macayla, Stacy and Carol at Hospice Plus of Longview for their compassionate care.

Graveside services will be held and she will be laid to rest at Cedarlawn Memorial Park, 5805 Texoma Parkway in Sherman at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 27 with Todd Catteau, Minister at Park Avenue Church of Christ in Denison officiating. Those who wish to attend are welcome.
