IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ellen Josephine
Lafoy
October 23, 1940 – March 19, 2024
Ellen Josephine LaFoy, 83-year-old of Sherman, passed peacefully March 19, 2024.
Ellen was born October 23, 1940, in Sherman, Texas. She was the daughter of George Francis Connor Sr and Martha Isabel (Hix) Connor.
She graduated from Sherman High School in 1958, and began a 40 plus year career with the US Department of Agriculture in the Soil Conservation Offices in Sherman and McKinney, Texas. She thoroughly enjoyed her job, which was assisting local farmers to identify and then help them to qualify for various farm programs based on the crops they were growing. After 41 years, she decided to retire in 2015.
On April 3rd, 1964, Ellen married John Lawrence (Larry) LaFoy in a small family ceremony held in Larry's sister's house in Sherman.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her husband of 60 years, raising their four boys; John, Steve, Wayne, and Chad, and spending time visiting with her sisters and in-laws most every Sunday afternoon. She also spent many Saturday mornings going to various yard and estate sales where she specialized in collecting salt and pepper shakers of every imaginable creation.
Other times she was sitting outside watching birds and other wild life, or waving at passers-by on the small road that her and Larry lived on East of Sherman. The land where Ellen and Larry built their home is where her mother had grown up, and she loved telling people about that history. Ellen was also an avid reader and she spent the early years of the boys childhood reading stories to them every night before bed.
Ellen always had a smile on her face, and will be remembered for her little giggle which told the story of her sweet and kind personality.
Ellen was preceded in death by her Father, George Francis (Hub) Connor Sr; Mother, Martha Isabel (Izzie) Connor; Brother, George Francis (Frank) Connor Jr; Son, Steven Ray LaFoy.
Those left to cherish their memories of Ellen are her husband, John Lawrence (Larry) LaFoy of Sherman; Son, John Lee LaFoy (Craig Berg) of Indio, CA; Son, George Wayne LaFoy (Jody) of Howe, TX; Son, Chad Lynn LaFoy (Cynthia) of Savoy, TX.
Also surviving are Ellen's Sisters, Claire Baker, Linda Denison, and Elaine Tyson; Brother, Richard Connor; Grandchildren, Jenna Smith, Danielle LaFoy, Jessie LaFoy, Steven LaFoy, Emily LaFoy, Lily LaFoy, Evan LaFoy, and great-grandchildren Grayson Ohaver, and Everleigh Smith.
The Family will receive friends at Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman on Saturday, March 23rd from 1:00PM - 3:00PM.
