Obituary
Funeral services for Eugene Roy Barker, age 90, of Sherman, TX will be held at 2:00PM Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the Forest Avenue Baptist Church in Sherman with Rev. Jeff Reid and Rev. Brian Taylor officiating. Entombment will follow at the Chapel on the Hill at Cedarlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Sherman. Arrangements are under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman.
Roy passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2014 in Sherman, TX.
He was born on November 15, 1923 in Dodd City, TX the son of Forrest and Vista Wade Barker. Roy joined and served in the United States Marine Corps. He married Mildred A. Butler on January 23, 1943 and they were married for 71 years. Roy worked for 40 years at Anderson Clayton in Sherman. He loved hunting, fishing, playing bingo and most of all he loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Roy was a member of the Forest Avenue Baptist Church and the Travis Street Masonic Lodge in Sherman.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Barker of Sherman, TX, son, Ron Barker and wife Dottie of Argyle, TX, daughter, Sharon Conaway and husband Jack of Tom Bean, TX and son Rick Barker and wife Margaret of Garland, TX, seven grandchildren, Richard Barker, Carrie McMillan, Melody Griffin, Robby Robertson, Kayla Cranford, Katie Earnest and Reid Barker. Roy is also survived by five great grandchildren, one brother, Robert Barker and wife Mary Lou of Sherman, TX and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Irene Barker and Ema Lou Barker.
The family night will be on Tuesday, March 25th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Waldo Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Grayson County Home Hospice at 505 W. Center Street Sherman, TX 75090.
A special "Thank you" from the family would like to be given to Sherden Home Health, Grayson County Home Hospice and all of the Nurses, Aides and staff of The Willows at Sherman for the care given to Roy and his family.
