IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Fred Roger
Barnick
January 16, 1936 – June 2, 2023
Frederic Roger Barnick passed away on June 2, 2023, at the age of 87. Fred was born in Chicago on January 16, 1936, to Herman and Myrtle (Voelkner) Barnick and graduated from Proviso High School. He served 3 years in the Army Corps of Engineers in Korea.
Fred had a long career as a lithographer, managing the pre-press operations at several large printers in the Chicago area. He also obtained his real estate broker's license. An avid golfer and racquetball player, Fred enjoyed watching many sports, especially his hometown national league baseball team, the Chicago Cubs.
Fred married Alice Wacker on May 28, 1982. He and Alice loved traveling to the Caribbean and visiting family and friends all over the U.S. They retired to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, where they made many friends and were devoted golfers. They attended Village Bible Church and served on several mission trips with Wycliffe Bible Translators. Fred always had a ready smile for everyone he knew. In 2013, he had a debilitating fall, and he and Alice relocated to Sherman/Denison to be near family.
Fred is survived by his wife Alice, children Mike Barnick (Lori), Cindy Holthaus (Pat), and Matt Barnick (Jenn), and stepson Kevin Wacker (Cary); grandchildren Nicole Barnick, Kyle Barnick (Kylie), Jordan Holthaus, Dylan Barnick, Logan Barnick, Mason Barnick, Nathan Wacker (Alison), and Charis Wacker; nephew Steven Schroeder (Danute); nieces Susan Schroeder (Borgardt) and Linda Kohles (Bryan). Fred is also survived by 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Herb Barnick, sister Arlene Schroeder, and brother-in-law William R. Schroeder.
The family would like to thank the amazing staff of Celebration Senior Living, where Fred resided, and the compassionate caregivers with Home Hospice of Grayson County. A private memorial will be held under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Fred's name to Home Hospice of Grayson County.
