Obituary

Frederick Otto Lehmann, Jr., 81, of Sherman, Texas, went home to our heavenly father on November 13, 2023. Fred passed peacefully from complications caused from COVID which he contracted January 2022.  Fred was born in Dallas, Texas on April 14, 1942, to Frederick Otto Lehmann Sr. and Virginia Gates Lehmann, and he lived there for 18 years. Fred graduated from Hillcrest High School.  As a teenager during the Summer, Fred worked for Survey Drilling Company that his dad owned. He traveled around the South drilling wells.  He often told stories about his experiences working in the swamps of Louisiana and the harsh conditions. These experiences developed his future career path which did not include drilling, although he adored working with his father. After graduating from high school, he continued his education at Austin College in Sherman, Texas where he earned a BS in Accounting in 1964. While attending college, Fred fell in love with Sherman and settled down.  He started his career at Tom Hudgins Accounting Firm.  He became a Certified Public Accountant, February 1, 1969, while working at the firm. Shortly after he became a CPA, he received his draft notice from Uncle Sam for the Vietnam War.   Fred was drafted to be an Officer, however, due to his eyesight he was changed to Enlisted and worked as a Storekeeper in Long Beach, California.  One day, the Admiral needed a Chauffeur, and Fred was selected.  After that, he completed his four-year enlistment Chauffeuring the Admiral.  After his enlistment, Fred and his small family returned to Sherman, Texas to Tom Hudgins accounting firm.  In 1979 Fred joined Jones, Lehmann and Hess Accounting Firm.  Later he went out on his own until 2022 during COVID.

In 1981 Fred married the love of his life, Jan Fowler in Sherman, Texas.  Fred took on her three children all at different school ages. He was a loving, supportive stepfather. Fred expressed his love for Jan by purchasing a brick for the new patio at Wilson N Jones Hospital that said, "Fred loves Jan", an endearment to her. Fred and Jan celebrated their 42nd Wedding Anniversary in June 2023.  Fred had many friends that lasted a lifetime.  Once you were a friend to Fred, you were in his heart forever. Fred and Jan were active members of Grace United Methodist Church and the Walk to Emmaus.  The Emmaus community devotes their time and energy to developing Christian disciples and leaders by inspiring, challenging and equipping active adult church members for Christian action. Everyone who knew Fred knew how much he loved music, guns, knives, hunting, woodworking and cooking for people.  He enjoyed life.

Fred will always be remembered as a larger-than-life character with a loving spirit, generous nature, crazy humor, and culinary skills. We will miss Fred every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him. Fred is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jan Lehmann and his furry friend Abby, his children: Eric Lehmann, Leska McCall (husband), Kete Jackson (Jeff), Peter Fowler and Mark Fowler (Amie), grandchildren: Jonathan, Kathryn, Cameron, Drew, Kimberly, Zach, Nate, Elizabeth, Catherine, brother: Doug Lehmann (Dotty), nieces and nephew: Cherie, Stacy, and Sam. He was preceded in death by parents, his sister Elizabeth Bradshaw and his brother, Carl Lehmann.
