Obituary

Gary Lynn Renfro passed away on September 24, 2024 in Sherman, TX surrounded by his family.

Gary was born May 3rd,1955 in Garland, Texas to Charles Douglas Renfro and Bearnice Mary (Dean) Renfro. He was a life-time resident of North Texas.

He worked as a drywall hanger in his early years. He later moved on to wanting to learn to weld. Gary then enrolled into Grayson County College Welding School. While attending Welding School is where he met his wife Joahanna Leigh Renfro. She started the class a little late and the teacher asked Gary to help her get caught up with the rest of the class. ( Later at their wedding the teacher said "that was the best weld he ever made.")  After he and Joahanna got married, Gary started working as a fire fighter for the City of Sherman, while also continuing to run a small construction business. He used to say that "the firefighting job kept the roof over our heads, but the meat and potatoes came from him working construction". He used to say that he only started working as a fire fighter just as a temporary thing just for the insurance, he later retired 34 years later. He spent the majority of his life running towards the situations that everyone else was running away from. He saved so many people over the years that it's hard to fathom. Gary bought Joahanna a farm where they ran the very first and Largest Grade A Goat Dairy in Grayson County, while raising 3 very rambunctious boys. He continued his passion for helping people until his health declined due to a brain tumor. He retired from the Fire Department and spent the rest of his days finally able to relax with family and friends until the end.

He was preceded in death by his late wife Joahanna Renfro, Mother, Bernice Mary Renfro, and Father, Charles Douglas Renfro.

Gary is survived by his children Benjamin Renfro (Shaina), Jason Phillips (Sara), Jon Renfro (Jessica), Grandchildren Austin Phillips, Darion, Katie Phillips, James, John, Micah Phillips, Mina, Tony and Zachary Beckham.  His siblings Charlotte Renfro, Keith Renfro, Mike Renfro, and Paul Renfro.

Everyone that knew him loved him!
