George Whiting, Jr
Denison- Graveside services for George Gould Whiting, Jr will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, August 1 at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman with Bro. Kerry Groce of the Mead Baptist Church officiating. Military honors will be provided by Sheppard Air Force Base with services under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home.
George was born November 6, 1929 in Lexington, Massachusetts to the late George Whiting, Sr and Marion (Robus) Whiting, and departed this life on Thursday, July 28 at Wilson N. Jones Regional Medical Center at the age of 86. George was born the oldest son of a depression era family and lost his father at the age of 11. He was forced to go to work to support his family but still completed high school before joining the US Air Force in 1951. He married the love of his life, Lowana Heynen, on August 31, 1952 in Duncanville. After a 20 year career in the Air Force that included service in Vietnam, George retired as Chief Warrant Officer and attended the Elkins Institute and Grayson College where he learned television repair. He soon opened George's Radio and TV Repair in Sherman. Lowana and George were active members of the Lakeside Dudes and Dolls square dancing group and held many offices within the group. He also enjoyed boating and was a member of the Mead Baptist Church. He and Lowana had been married over 63 years when she passed away in August 2015. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a son, William George Whiting, and a brother, William Whiting.
Mr. Whiting is survived by his daughter, Debbie Norris of Denison, son, George Whiting III and his wife, Sophia of Sherman, grandchildren, Alan Norris (Jodi) of Bokchito, OK, Amanda Whiting of Sherman, and Jerry 'J.C.' Norris and his wife, Kimberly of Durant; great grandchildren, Timberly Norris of Coalinga, CA and Rylan Boston of Durant; and sister, Barbara Althouse of Yardley, Pennsylvania.
The family will receive friends Sunday, July 31 from 6-8 PM at Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman. The online register book may be signed at www.waldofuneralhome.com.
