Gloria Lavonne Fredrick Markl, 89, of Sherman, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2026.

Born July 25, 1937, in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, to Eric Warren and Eva Juanita Fredrick, Gloria was the youngest of three children and attended Wheaton High School. In 1958, she married Donald Markl. Together, they shared 68 years of marriage and raised six children.

While raising her family in West Chicago, Illinois, Gloria was an active member of her community. She dedicated her time to the Indian Knoll Elementary School PTA and was a comforting presence as a Pink Lady hospital volunteer. She enjoyed entertaining her Canasta group and also served as an Election Judge.

Gloria loved settling in for a good movie and listening to music. She was a wonderful cook who’s famous three-bean salad was the highlight of any family gathering. Above all, Gloria’s greatest joy was spoiling her grandchildren; a visit to Grandma’s house was a guarantee of endless treats, field trips and fun.

Gloria is survived by her husband, Donald; her children, John (Debbie), Diana Dunlop (Bill), Virginia Ewing (Kenneth), Deb David (Neil), Carol Swanson (Terry), and Dorianne Cammarota; 17 grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

Our Mother can be best described by the word “Motherhood.” Motherhood is a quiet, powerful journey of unconditional love, endless patience and daily sacrifice that shapes the foundation of our lives.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, November 12, 2026 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
