IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gordon Stuart
Mook
April 19, 1948 – November 11, 2024
It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of Gordon Stuart Mook, beloved father, grandfather, partner, and friend. Gordon passed away peacefully on November 11, 2024, at the age of 76, after a courageous battle with advanced stage 4 lung cancer, surrounded by his devoted daughter, Christine, and his beloved girlfriend, Joy.
Gordon was born in Brighton, Michigan, and lived a life rich with adventure, talent, and dedication. He graduated from Highland Park High School and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in accounting from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, where he played in the SMU Jazz Band.
Gordon proudly served his country as a first-class petty chief officer in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, and he continued to lead a life filled with varied and unique experiences. His career spanned many fields: he was a talented photographer who traveled to places like Jamaica, Cancun, and Hawaii; he worked as a Pit Boss at Harrah's Casino in Las Vegas; and he served as a cab driver for the Lighthouse of the Blind in Dallas. As a musician, his heart belonged to jazz and country/western music, and he was privileged to play with icons like Willie Nelson, Johnny Paycheck, and even the Dixie Chicks.
His diverse interests included music, photography, singing, sports, and animal care—especially for his beloved cat, Ally. Gordon's infectious love for life and his unique sense of humor endeared him to all who knew him. He cherished his role as a father to Christine and grandfather to Julius, a young boy he lovingly saw as a "cloned version" of himself. Gordon's life was marked by his boundless generosity, his spirited personality, and his unwavering support for those he loved.
Gordon is survived by his daughter Christine Castillo, son-in-law Jimmy Castillo, grandson Julius Chain, and his dear companion Joy. He is preceded in death by his mother, Naomi Louise Kuznickie, father Clarence L. Mook, and sister Georgia Cheek. He will be dearly missed, but his legacy of kindness, humor, and warmth will live on in our hearts.
In honor of Gordon's life and his boundless capacity for love, we ask that in lieu of flowers or donations, you take a moment to hug a loved one, share a laugh, and cherish the people close to you. As we mourn his passing, we find comfort in the words of Revelation 21:4: "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain."
Please join us in remembering and celebrating Gordon's remarkable life. A visitation will be held at Waldo Funeral Home, 619 N. Travis Street, Sherman, TX 75090, on 11/22/2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
