IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Helen Janet
Raney
December 12, 1938 – April 1, 2025
Helen Janet Raney entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on April 1, 2025. She was born on December 12, 1938, in Randolph, Texas, as the beloved only child of Luther Virgil Howard and Osa Mae (Madison) Howard.
After graduating from Denison High School in 1956, Helen married Thomas Newton Shipp Jr. in 1960. Together, they built a life and a business, co-owning The Tom Shipp Company and Shipp Motor Supply Company until 1984. That same year, Helen began a new chapter in her career as a realtor with Sherden Realty. She later married Harold Jean Godsey in 1987, sharing cherished years together until his passing in 1991. In September 2000, Helen found love again and married Marion "Wayne" Raney.
Helen had a heart full of kindness and a deep love for people. She found joy in working for 62 years, with her last role as a receptionist for the Texas A&M Agricultural Life Extension Office from 2015 to 2020. However, nothing brought her greater happiness than her family and friends, whom she cherished dearly.
Helen is survived by her husband, Marion "Wayne" Raney, her devoted daughter, Deborah Ann (Shipp) Rowen, and son-in-law, Carl Edwards of Lake Dallas. She was a loving grandmother to Stephanie (Rowen) Leininger-Anderson and her husband, Edward Anderson. She took immense pride in her identical twin great-granddaughters, Kyra Nicole Leininger and Kennedy Claire Leininger. Helen was also blessed with two step-granddaughters, Amber Nicole Reynolds and her husband Mark Reynolds, as well as Kendra June Wallace and her husband Owen Wallace, along with their children. She leaves behind many beloved cousins and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Thomas Newton Shipp Jr.; her second husband, Harold Jean Godsey; and her stepdaughter, Donna June (Raney) Cook.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Saturday, April 5, 2025 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman, Texas. A celebration of Helen's life will be held on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church in Sherman, Texas, officiated by Pastor Owen Wallace. Interment will follow at Cedarlawn Memorial Park. A dinner gathering will take place afterward at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
Flowers may be sent to Waldo Funeral Home in Helen's memory.
