Herbert Gerald Roe of Euless Tx formerly of Sherman passed away on January 9, 2019 at Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Grapevine due to after surgery complications from Cancer. Herbert gave up his fight and joined his ancestors in the Heavens above where he will live pain free and will dwell in the House of the Lord forever. A committal service will take place Saturday 1:00pm January 26, 2019 at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman.
Herbert was born in Sherman Tx on April 23, 1938 to parents John Perry and Nannie Belle Roe. Herbert attended Sherman public schools where he graduated in 1956. He became interested in basketball in his freshman year and went on to help his team win state district championships for the years of 54,55, 56. After graduation Herbert went to work for Lloyd Plyler Construction and went right back to building a new addition to the high school where he just graduated from. A year later he decided that was not his line of work and joined the US Army for three years and spent one year in Korea after the war. After he left the Army he came back to Sherman. He took a position at LTV in Garland in the purchasing department.
Herb spent many days fishing and hunting with his father and brothers growing up in Sherman. Camping trips to the islands on Lake Texoma. He enjoyed playing golf on the weekends with his brother Robert. In March of 1976 Herb married and is survived by Linda Beasley Poynor who had three daughters, Carie Downes married to Michael Downes of Hewitt Tx, Julie Gershenson of Tucson Az, and Joni Little married to Bobby Little of McKinney Tx. He also had 7 grandchildren Cliff Dunnam, Chad Dunnam. Caylie Dunnam, Jeremy Gershenson, Jorden Gershenson, Blake Little, and Trey Little along with 2 great grandchildren who he loved and enjoyed spending time with. Later in life Herb especially enjoyed times spent getting to fish and golf with Bobby, Blake, and Trey as they lived close enough to enjoy some of his favorite spots. Herb's love and devotion for his family was certainly felt. They thought the world of him and he will be deeply missed.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents John Perry and Nannie Belle Roe. Brothers, Donald, Glenn, Buddy, Gene, Robert, Johnny and wife Linda. Uncle Robert, Aunt Nelle and husband Jim Bob Hickman.
Herbert is survived by his wife Linda of Euless, brothers Ross, Richard, Joe, Jerry, and Mike and sister Sherry Arthur. Several nieces and nephews.
