Hubert Baker
Sr.
May 31, 1941 – July 5, 2024
Hubert Baker, Sr. age 83 of Sherman, ascended to his eternal home Friday, July 5th at his residence following an extended illness.
Hubert was born May 31, 1941, in Clarksville Texas to Onedia and Al Baker. He was raised in DeKalb Texas and from there he moved to Lubbock Texas where he met and married the love of his life Janie Johnson. They married February 2, 1962, in Lubbock Texas while working at Coca-Cola Bottling Co. He also worked at Gifford Hill Tubing Co, where he was a welder. From there they moved to Paris Texas where he worked at Campbell Soup Co. They then moved to Sherman Texas where he worked for BNSF Railroad for 34 yrs. After retirement he then was able to do what he loved most, work in his yard and garden full-time while babysitting.
During their 62 years of marriage, they had 5 children and 3 bonus children. Together they obeyed the Gospel in 1972 at Central Street Church of Christ and they Worshiped for many years, and they became Christians, thanks to their children. Central Street Church of Christ then became Grand Ave Church of Christ where he was a dedicated worker for Christ teaching the gospel. They then moved to Parkview Church of Christ where he served as a Teacher, Deacon and in his final days he served as an Elder.
Hubert was preceded in death by his mother and father Al Baker, Oneida Dockins, his son Hubert Baker Jr., his great grandson Bryson Shields and sister Lodesker Levis.
He is survived by His wife Janie Baker, and children Debbie (Bruce) Washington, Gwendolyn (Clifford) Cole, Jeffery Baker Sr., Christopher (Tasgel) Baker, Frenchelle (Kendrick Sr.) Stribling, Leonard Johnson, Paulette Johnson, and other relatives and friends.
A public visitation will be held Friday, July 12th from 3 P.M. to 7 P.M. at Waldo Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be Saturday, July 13th at 11 A.M. at Parkview Church of Christ, 815 S. Dewey Ave., Sherman, with Brother Welton Stoker officiating. Burial will follow at West Hill Cemetery.
